Gregory Borgerson, PhD

My practice is focused on the psychotherapy of adults and couples. I specialize in the treatment of dissociative, psychotic, and personality disorders as well as depression and anxiety.

My approach to psychotherapy is person centered, recognizing the uniqueness of every individual and evaluating each personโ€™s strengths and weaknesses in order to guide them on a path of growth and healing. I utilize the modalities of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Hypnosis and Daseinanalysis, and enjoy working with diverse clients and cultures.

I began my career as the director of an Alcoholism program. After leaving there I began consulting businesses to create customized employee assistance programs, while also counseling substance abuse patients individually, before transitioning to open my own private practice in 1979.

I have been consulting, teaching, and counseling full time for over 45 years. I have taught psychology as an adjunct faculty at Delta College and Saginaw Valley State University, as well as a full time faculty teacher for a year at Saginaw Valley State University, while maintaining a private practice. I have presented papers on my research in psychotherapy and the philosophy of the ego at The American Psychological Association, The International Human Science Conference and the Society for Phenomenology in the Social Sciences.

My doctoral dissertation was on โ€œThe Recovery of Forgotten Trauma,โ€ published in Dissertation Abstracts International. I have practiced and taught Taijiquan for fifty years and in my spare time I garden, exercise, and read philosophy. I have two adult daughters and four grandchildren.
